Although it seems unusual at first, I think it's great.
There are too many of us who are inspired mostly by visual images, rather than printed words.

I think it's fine. Those who visit will never forget their loved ones face as can often happen, especially with children who lose a parent early & as in my case....everything else was burned to the ground, so no real pictures remained for me to have.
My personal memories may be a bit faded with time, and the faces indistinct, but I'm able to super-impose my parents images into the recall to this day because I have seen their faces on the stone.

I like it. The names on those stones are not just names, they were real people with faces and families. Carving their picture on the stone makes them more real. My nephew died in an accident and his mother put up a stone with his picture on it. His plot was defiled, burned, and the stone broken. The new one has no picture, and I miss it. It's getting harder to remember him.

Until I came to the States I had never seen such a thing at first I was shocked, then I started wondering why? Is to remind people what he/she looked like? If you are really grieving for someone you don't forget what they look like.

I don't mind it but which picture do you put on? I would like mine at 28 when I was in my prime, but I'm 59 now and some friends never knew me at that age. Or do you put a picture of yourself when you are old and haggard? Difficult, eh?

It's a nice way to keep the person's memory alive and to help the grieving family deal with their loss.

a gravestone is more for the family then for the dead. if it makes the family and loved ones feel good to go there and look at the picture then it's fine.

I don't think I would want mine on one but if it helps a family deal with the loss of a love one, I am for whatever helps.
