I recently badly sprained my left ankle playing football (soccer). My foot was planted on the floor, and an opposition player crunched my ankle from the inside.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a bad ankle sprain from soccer, and how long it took to get back into the game.
I sprained it 11 days ago, and the swelling has gone down, but it is still a bit sore to walk on.
thanks

It takes a long time for these to heal, depending on how bad you were injured and how well you take care of it. A minor sprain will stop hurting in a few days with proper treatement and regain strength within a week. A bad sprain like yours will take at least 2 weeks to stop being painful. And it will take an entire month to regain its strength. What I mean by that is the muscles on the outside of your ankle remain weak and can't hold the foot stable as well as they should. You remain at high risk for re-injuring the ankle (you've been warned).

The treatment of choice for a simple sprain is ice. Most of the damage done in a sprain comes from inflammation. A typical sprain involves an injury you don't even notice. You feel fine. Then you go to bed and you wake up with a painful ankle and trouble walking or even just standing. Untreated, it could get worse over a few days time before it starts to heal. Using ice on the ankle prevent most of that damage. Ice it right after the injury (20 to 30 minutes) and then ice it again before you go to bed. For good measure, icing it halfway through the night is also a good idea. If the damage is already been done, and the ankle is no longer swollen, you really have no choice but to wait as it heals. Be careful using too much pain reliever as, if you can't feel the pain, it is easy to do something stupid and reinjure it. Drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet. This speeds your healing quite a bit.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

it actually depends on the severity of your ankle sprain and also which specific ankle ligament was injured.
best advise i can give you is to go see an orthopedic doctor and or a PT clinic so they can better assess your condition.xrays and special tests should be done for better evaluation of the injury.hypermobility of the ankle joint and increased predilection to repetitive injury are your major concerns.
this may take up to 6 weeks.
if the swelling has gone down, that's a good sign that you can proceed performing ankle strengthening exercises.let's just hope that there was no major tear on the ligament involved.

I understand you do not wish to listen to this...however my pal is this kind of exercises addict as of approximately two years in the past, and in view that she simply randomly began go nation going for walks and cycling within the wooded area close her condo, using three days per week (horses) monitor practices three days per week, (sundays she is going for further runs and motorbike rides) with out a earlier coaching earlier than that besides for infrequent runs external her as soon as per week using courses and tuition monitor practices (she is this kind of enthusiast...I do not see how she does it however...) she sprains her ankle(s) once or more a month. SPRAINS NEVER HEAL COMPLETELY. her mother is a nurse and continually reminds her of that, she wears a tensor/ace bandage, and an ankle brace, on each and every ankle whether or not its sprained or no longer (heavier ones for whilst theyre honestly sprained) for the reason that she was once so reckless (and she or he's correct right here as I kind this lol, however she's busy ranting approximately how her horseshow was once cancelled for the reason that of rain lol) she ended up pressure fracturing an already sprained ankle gambling volleyball, (and she or he sprained it in the course of baseball). the one factor she will be able to do now's experience. No distance going for walks or sprinting, no cycling, simply using, for the reason that it is the best factor that does not harm it. She might not be fully healed till the tip of September, and has to spend her cash that by and large is going to horse stuff, on physio. This is protecting her again from the 800 m provincials. the effect sucks...it'll heal so much much less in case you play...and even though she nonetheless excercised, nonetheless rode, nonetheless went to monitor meets and horseshows, she regrets it, for the reason that the everlasting agony and affliction from braces and tensors holds her again. (she additionally has Osgood-Shlatters Disease and has to put on two kneee braces on each and every knee at the same time going for walks and cycling) move forward and play, simply be fairly cautious approximately whether or not or no longer you might have beforehand sprained it. be aware from pal: "I might like to mention that Jamie's being dramatic...which possibly the wording makes it appear like that, however sure I am very damage inclined... however no agony so long as I'm dressed in the braces...however she's correct, sprains in no way heal. I roll over on my ankle, it hurts for hours or days, if I shuttle, equal factor. BE CAREFUL..."

as a person in nursing...i would say keep it elevated even if the swelling is down! try to rest and not walk around too much! It could very easily take a couple weeks to a couple months to completly heal depending on how bad it was sprained! If it hurts really bad i would see a doctor you could have also ripped or torn a muscel!
