I don't know about more days but definitely not less. I get really irritated when I see people make statements like: I need them to be in school so I can go to work or I can't afford more babysitting. Excuse me! That isn't what school is for! We are NOT babysitters for parents!

Second, When people say kids have more time off now than in the past, I know that isn't true, either. We are actually going more. When I was in school, for example, we didn't start until after Labor Day and ended in early June. I know that because my birthday is in early June and I never went to school on my birthday. As far as days off in the year, we always got 2 weeks at Christmas, a week at Easter and all the typical days such as Columbus Day and Veteran's Day, which we don't get anymore. We got both Lincoln's Birthday and Washington's Birthday, now we get MLK and President's Day.

In addition, we got unlimited snow or inclement weather days and now we are limited to 5 per year. Any over, we have to make up.

We actually go more than when I went to school 40 years ago.

The problem with kids not learning enough is actually because there is more to learn now, and people don't want to or feel we can't eliminate what we've always had. Also, because of changing family dynamics and values, children do not come to school prepared or ready to learn. In the inner city, we have children coming to school for first grade, functioning at a 2 year old level. And society and the politicians can't figure out why they can't read on schedule.

What about me? I don't like 2 go 2 collage, just like kids but unfortunately I'm not a kid these days. And ya, they should get more. They should just play and try 2 socialize otherwise their life would b miserable when they become teenager.

No way, the more education, the better. Kids now days are so lacking in knowledge, and are so catered to by laws, and political correctness now days, teachers cannot teach a proper education.

no i think they get enough time off.
but i would like to see the summer holidays reduced from
6 weeks to say 4 and have an extra 2 weeks at christmas
because they need the time to play with the new presents
they got for christmas. makes sense to me, they would be
more occupied then.

I think the amount is perfect. What I don't agree with is a measure being raised to cut summers in half. I think the old, traditional method is best.

EVERYONE should get more days off... this government makes us work harder than nearly any nation on earth. That's because they know you're paying taxes and they can keep their jobs.
