First find a common denominator such as (3x4=) 12. Then make sure your numerators have also been changed so it looks like 126 3/12 minus 78 8/12. The problem with this number is that 3 is too small to subtract 8 from, so you'll need to borrow one whole (12) from 126 and add it to the 3 in the numerator space so it would be 125 15/12 minus 78 8/12. Subtract the whole numbers (125-78) which equals 47. Then subtract the numerators of the fractions (15-8) which equals 7. Leave the denominator as it is since it is equal in both numbers(12). The answer will be 47 7/12.
