What Nationality are you?
If you are EU (or any other country that you can get a visa for) just come. There are many cheap colleges in London that teaches English to foreigners for a few hundred pounds. If you have a part time job you can afford to pay for you're studies as you go along.
Even if you don't go to college you will learn English anyways.
Many of my EU housemates came to UK not being able to speak a word of English and most of them are moderate to good with their English now after a year.

join an au pair agency, you can be an au pair or home help for as long or little time as you like, its a great way to learn english, meet new people, learn differnt way of living. plus get paid while you learn.
