As for older films...anything by Alfred Hitchcock, especially Psycho (it sent people running and screaming from the theaters in the 50's) also try the original Dawn of the Dead. I also enjoy foreign horror films, mostly Japanese and Korean ones like Juon (the Grudge is based on it) A Tale of Two Sisters, Phone, and Dark Water (the original, not the American). Have Fun!

the scary movies from the 70s and 80s are awesome! they don't make them like that anymore. My faves are:

Halloween
Children of the Corn
Carrie
Fright Night
The Howling
The Shining
The Omen (the original)
Friday the 13th (i'm not big on slasher movies but it must be included)
Bless the Child (though not from that era, not a bad watch)
Stephen King's IT (it's a fun watch)
Rosemary's Baby (though i've never seen the film, i feel it should be included on the merit of being a classic)

The texas chainsaw movie freaked me out i dont ever want to go on a road trip, because of that movie, and i get nervous while gettin on an air plane because of those finial destination movies. I really liked the grudge and grudge 2, they made sure that i didn't sleep well at night, haha. But now i can watch the grudge n grudge two without gettin scared at night.

Evil Dead (the original). Pretty cool movie made by some kids with hardly no budget.
It was later picked up by some people who remade it with a much larger budget: Evil Dead 2. That one's ok too.
