She said she promised the father that she would bring the boy back for visits. By giving David an education and a better life, she said, he may some day be able to return to his homeland and help people there.

Madonna said she and her husband had planned on adopting two years ago, not knowing where they would adopt. She said it was her charity work in Malawi that brought them to David.

David had spent most of his life in an orphanage with 500 other children although his father was alive. Madonna said she was told his mother and three siblings had died of AIDS and added, "from my perspective, there was no one looking after David's welfare."

The problem that most people have got is because of who they are they had all the rules bent just for them, they are meant to stay in the country for x amount of time before they can be considered for the adoption, good luck to these people who want to help these poor children all for it, but what about the children in this country you never hear of a celebrity adopting from this country.

the media will always have something to say about Madonna whether its adopting a child or whatever ...Madonna's profession has placed her in the limelight and she gratefully accepted that when she signed on with her profession..if she really wanted privacy she wouldn't have have made any statements to the press..publicity is what keeps her in her business...personally i do not believe its totally unselfish she knew that this would draw attention and whose not going to support an artist that single handily saved this child from death...their are Americans adopting foreign children everyday that otherwise would have died and are they on TV or in the media because of it ???NO..there are alot of really unselfish people out there..Madonna is not one of them sorry
