I know what you're thinking " is this chick crazy " but the question is from my friend. I'm positive that overweight people can breed but she won't take my word for it, so please just give me some serious answers. She is 5'7 and190 pounds and is desperate for a child and is skeptical for if she should lose weight first than try to conceive or have the baby first and lose the pregnancy weight and some of the weight she has now all together. This will be her first child and she can't stop thinking about what choice she should make. HELP ME PLEASE, she's getting annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i AM 5"8 and was overweight for my first pregnancy...I was told that I could only gain 10 lbs in the pregnancy. I followed the food plan...and ended up losing weight. I figured that I may have a hard time in the pregnancy or develop problems...but it was smooth sailing throughout. It is possible for overweight people to get pregnant but you do have to be careful and watch everything

Yes hefty people can get pregnant. And she can do it either way she wants. Lose the weight first or after-- or not at all. Its up to her. She is not that overweight. And as a friend I would be there for her and reassure her. Not let her be "corrupted" so to speak by other peoples biases.

If she really wants to lose the weight she may want ot consider the fact she may not have the time or energy to lose the weight after the baby is born. And if she decides to lose the weight after or even before offer to exercise with her or watch the baby for her a day or two a week.

Yes, overweight women can certainly have children and HEALTHY children. I know many women that are overweight and had beautiful, healthy pregnancies. And then I know some thin women that had difficult pregnancies.

The risks associated with overweight mothers are basically gestational diabetes. That can occur in women that are not overweight as well. But it is more common in overweight women. But again, I knew several women with the gestational diabetes and they went on to have wonderfully healthy babies. It's just a matter of controlling the diabetes with diet or insulin or a combo of both.

Your friend should not worry. It's not like she's 5'0" and 350#!

yes over weight women can have babies just as easily as skinny women. Over weight women do have a higher risk of gestational diabetes. as a big woman my self, im pregnant with my second child and my daughter is perfectly healthy and so far my pregnancy has gone well. the doctor has told me to limit the amount of weight that i gain. I gained 30lbs with my daughter and she was a 9lb baby so i expect to gain about that much again. Your friend may not be ovulating as often as a smaller woman, because sometimes obeisity can interfere with that. Tell her to go to her ob and get everything checked out, and so should her partner. It doesnt make much sense to me to lose the weight the put it back on again with the baby. Good LUck!

Doctors will tell her to lose weight, though it is possible for overweight women to conceive. There are, however, problems like polycystic ovarian syndrom that cause infertility--and many women with this condition are overweight. For this an other reasons, I think it's better to be a healthy weight when getting pregnant. It will certainly be easier on your friend's body.

Overweight women can have children like anyone else. However, there are increased risks. The best thing for her to do is talk to an OB/GYN and get his/her opinion. Mine put me on the diabetic diet so I lost weight while I was pregnant, which was fine since I had extra weight to begin with. Tell her to start taking prenatal pills, since that's MUCH more important than the weight thing.

Overweight, even obese people can have children. But!!! being obese or even overweight can have an affect on your level of fertility. Such as women with PCOS tend to be overweight to obese, because of the hormone imbalances. And Obese women are more likely to have or to develop PCOS. Also, being overweight or obese can affect your pregnancy. Higher risks of developing things such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, to name a few. So yeah, if she has a weight problem her doctor may tell her to at least start exercising and watch her diet. As in less fatty foods and more veggies and fruits.

Yes she can conceive. She's probably concerned about being at a higher risk for things like gestational diabetes and high blood pressure. Oh yes and the word "breed" is usually used for animal procreation not for humans. She should go see her ob/gyn and ask him/her what is the best thing for her to do. Good luck.

Well, there wouldn't be any point losing all the weight, then putting it all back on again!!

I think she will be OK, just tell her to work on a diet after the baby is born!

hahaha why the heck wouldn't an overweight person be able to have a kid. One of the people I work with is like 5'4'' 220 lbs and is pregnant. The only thing she should be worried about is her children being obese.
