Even though we know they aren't right, why do we stay with someone longer than we should?

Oh, lots of reasons.
Your mom saying "I told you so" when you finally break up.
A baby.
A chemical addiction to oxytocin and phenylethylalanine (I think that's the one), and if you don't think love is an addiction, just read up on those two.
Let's see, religious beliefs about marriage,
a need to save someone,
because we haven't found the replacement to buffer loneliness at any cost,
or if you look at behavioral science, sometimes it's because the least predictable reward is the one we crave most. And some people know how to keep us hanging on for that one morsel.
Because it pays the bills.
Because we're insecure that we will find and deserve better.
Because
We're just too blind to cut through all those things and love ourselves enough to get the heck out.
Or, because we love ourselves too much, and refuse to turn things around by valuing compassion over selfishness.

We do because of the sense of comfort with that person. Alot of times even though we know they aren't right we have invested so much time and energy into the relationship you feel you have to hold on.

Yes that's a good one, i get so comfortable with someone even though were not really having fun anymore but the thought of leaving is so lonely that you just hang on and hope things will get better.

More often than not, yes. What can I say, it is just so hard to let go. I couldn't stay with someone I didn't love though. I just can't let go of someone I love but I know it's not working out.

The heart is treacherous, my friend. :) Hang in there. There is such a thing as beating a dead horse, when you know the relationship should have been over a long time ago, but you hang on out of attraction, pity, fear of being alone, fear of their temper, etc.

Hope it works out for you!

I think its because we dont want to admit that it didn't work and we dont want to give up on the hopes and dreams we have in our minds. Its the hope that maybe this time things will get better, but they never do.
