I'm a fifth grade teacher. This is my first year teaching. I need ideas on how I can get my class to work together, like in groups or teams, so that they can interact and get to know each other. I want them to feel comfortable and socialize with their fellow classmates while in class.

A great ice breaker activity is to do the Find Someone game. The are given a list of different things-the number of items doesn't matter. The list contains things like-find someone whose birthday is in Oct. Find someone witha dog. They have to go around and can only go to each person for 1 thing. THis gives them a moment with everyone to start.

I would divide the class into small groups and have them work on a project in class only...no taking the work home....i would have them at the outset of the project introduce themselves, even though they may know each other and have them talk about a favorite hobby/interest of theirs........

Divide into groups of three or four. Have each group work together on bulletin boards, a collage, artwork, or even on homework.
