The piece of id is either a citizenship card or your passport. I have never had these turned away. I don't know how the drivers license took over as the primary piece of id, but thirdly the best alternate piece of id is the Birth certificate.

Why are they doing THAT? You need to provide evidence of citizenship and of identity...that is at most two documents, from the list on the I-9 form. If you have a passport, you only need that!
