I dont know how to make sure its in neutral before starting it, and I dont know how to put in in gear, or where the gas and brake are. It is a 1980's Honda trike, and quad. Help!

Either you have a QUAD or You have a TRIKE You CAN'T have BOTH.
QUAD= 4WHEEL
TRIKE= 3WHEEL
Unless You have two different bikes.

well the last Honda quad I rode had the rear brake under your left foot, the front brake on the handle bars, the throttle for your left thumb and the shift under your right foot. What I do is shift the quad all the way to reverse by pressing down on the front part of the shifter until it doesn't shift any more then up one click is neutral. An easy way to check is shift it then get off and try to push it. If it rolls easily it's in neutral. If not try again.

You should get someone to show you these very important things. My only advise after you have been shown this is never put you foot down when in a turn or whatever. The rear wheel will run over your leg, and rip you off that machine like a banana peel.
