History is important because those are the roots to who we all are. They contain great accomplishments that make life so much easier for us now. History is power because you can learn a lot from by just knowing. People learn from history. What you do today is the history of tomorrow!

To have a record of events to check to see what happened before also not to repeat past mistakes. There are other reasons it is important if a bias in historical information is not corrected it could cause suffereing for future generations. It is very important not to deny what happened in history to use the knowledge of history to own up to crminal events in the past of kingdoms, religion,or nations. Prime example Holocaust of The 20th Century which is often listed as most horrific event in that was first industrialised mass murder while true before that The North American Genocide occured helped along in part by trains or done so trains could run across America. This is what makes history important a person must never be smug in the assertion that any horrific event after or in the future absolves people of responsibility to make sure the criminality of their own nation is fully admitted and laws to that effect are made and their prescence recorded in history.

Because it is the reason that things are like the way they are. Imagine if Constantine had not been converted to Christianity, or Muhammed had not quoted the Qu'ran, or Marx had never been born.
Imagine if the Russians had not been beating the Germans back, would the Allies have been so eager to go in on D-Day?
Imagine if the Japanese were a white race, would the Americans have nuked them?

History is what got us to here so it's very important. History is what created the laws, beliefs, and culture we have. It can also help us to understand the downfalls and mistakes of other cultures so the same mistakes are not made.

One should learn from mistakes (so they don't get repeated) and victories (how man overcame obstacles) of the past. It also defines who we are since it was our people that did whatever happened in the past.
