I can only tell you what I experienced during labor and why.
What you see in the movies with all the screaming and cussing and pain is just the movies and is great drama. Many women see this and get psyched into it being the way it must be. I'm not saying there is no discomfort or pain or that some don't women experience a great deal or none at all. Everyone is different and and what is in the movies is not always fact.
Understand any discomfort you may feel is temporary and there is a reason for it and it will pass. Understanding this is important.
I was fortunate and only had a lower back ache while in labor *whew* :)
Information is power. Read. Ask questions of yor doctor. Ask your fiance for support. Forget your Mother-in-law. She'll come around after everything settles down, and if she doesn't that is her problem not yours.
Best wishes to you.

Honey, you still have a couple of months before you have this baby. Don't start worrying about labor now! When you get down to the last month and the last week or so, I promise that you will be so ready for that baby, you will do what ever it takes. You can get an epidural, which numbs from the waist down. You are put on an IV with this as a drip. You won't feel the pain, but you feel all the muscles trying to contract and push your baby out. I had two epidurals. My first, I was trying to be strong and not have any meds, but if your anything like me and can't stand pain, this is the way to go. Ask you doctor about it and he/she will tell you what you need to know from there. Good Luck and don't worry about it. Worry about stocking up on diapers right now! You can always exchange them later for a different size if you need to, but stock up on them!

All women are scared. It's perfectly natural. However, it is unnatural to obsess over it.
Believe it or not, God engineered us women to do exactly what we're supposed to do when the time comes. Check out some birthing videos, take some classes in your last trimester, educate yourself. This will make you feel better. A great website is www.babycenter.com. This can put you in touch with other women at the same point in pregnancy as well as give you very valuable information during every stage. They have great info on labor and delivery as well.
Labor hurts... but there is always the option of an epidural!

Try to spend less time as possible with your mother in law, and when it comes to labor the best thing you can do is prepare yourself for it, I was as scared as you are but I had many good advices from the moms here, I've been reading and doing research on the options I have. I know it will be hard but Im ready. I read a lot of stories about labor hey are all diferent but you get an idea about what will happen. Try watching a baby story on TLC channel its good

Ever since I was little I swore I wouldnt have children because I didnt want to have to go through labor. Well, I got married last year and got pregnant on our honeymoon. I was so scared but it's not like I could change my mind y'know? Anyway, I spent so much time worrying and stressing about it. I came though it just fine and I have several OTHER health problems so if your a pretty normal healthy person you shouldn't really worry. The best thing I can say is read alot of book about labour and pregnancy, the more you know the better you feel. Its not as scary as people like to say it is. Like the other lady said, God will take care of you. He designed your body to go through labor and have a child and women have been doing it for years...even before they had doctors and meds. I had a natrual labor (meaning no meds) and it was just fine.
good luck and congrats!

A lot of times first time mothers are scared because they don't know what to expect. It's a whole new experience that is different for everyone. Some people might say it was difficult others might say it was easy. You could talk to your doctor about what you could expect during labor, ask any questions you might have no matter how dumb you think they are. The feeling of being prepared and in control might help ease your worries.

Labor for me wasnt bad. I guess it depends alot on if you are going to use any pain drugs. I did, and they are great. I love giving birth. I think it is one of the best feelings in the world for a woman. It does hurt, dont get me wrong, but it is such a beautiful experience. I would have 20 kids if I could. But honey, I wouldnt worry about that right now. You will have alot of things leading up to labor, and pretty soon you will be wanting to get it over with. Trust me, nine months isnt that long, but with all the leg pain, heartburn, insomnia and everything else that goes along with pregnancy, it will feel very long. Good luck to you honey.

Just look at it this way if labor was that bad you think woman would keep having babies. I have 5 kids four of them were born without any pain medication. I does hurt!! It doesn't last forever and if you really can't take the pain let them know you want an epidural.
Good luck!! Relax and enjoy your pregnancy!!

I think most of us feel afraid of labor before going through it. What helped me was surrounding myself with supportive, loving women who could gently tell me the realities without being too scary.
I also read some books (you can get them at the library) which had many stories of other women's labor... and it helped me to kind of know the range of what is normal. I used to wish that someone could tell me how it would be for me, but of course no one can.
Your own experience will be unique- and it will be yours! After your baby is born you will then be part of this wonderful sisterhood of women who have experienced this very powerful event.
Best wishes to you !

Labor is not as bad as they make it seem on TV...you may actually surprise yourself...when I was pregnant with my daughter, I was terrified of labor..but when I actually got to the hospital to have her, it ended up being easier then I thought...I apparently have a higher tolerance for pain then I thought because I did it natural...no medication...of course...I was only in labor 4 hours...I dont think thats normal for a first...not sure...
