I know that marriage was intended to be religious, but when you get married you get a lot of legal rights and responibilities too. For example, when you get married you change your last name. Also, taxes are different if you get married. Isn't church and state suppose to be seperate?

marriage is a legal and binding matter. it's a contract of two people promising to be true and loving to each other. this has nothing to do with religon.

this is why....when you go to the clerk's office to get married, you get married by a judge.

if you go to a church and get married by a priest, rabbi or pastor you still have to go to the courthouse to get it legalized.

You are in a very thin and gray area. Way back when; thousands of years ago; women had no rights, and were just like cattle or sheep. In point of fact, animals were oft times treated better than women. Religion gave women and marriage a softer image and better treatment. Come forward a few thousand years and women can vote, own property, drive cars, all sorts of exciting things. Your question is not quite clear.

Supposed to...but that's just the way it is. There is no law you have to change your name though. As for taxes, it's the two of you working and living together, so it all goes together as one. Nowadays, religion is pretty much out the door when people marry.

Marriage and everything involved with it is a society thing.
Different societies have different rules.
It is society rules......And alot of times society is not the right answer for everyone!

Playing the religious card on this one has me floored to.....But each to their own. I think you and your spouse should decide what it means to you.

It is religious for some but not all. My husband is a non-believer and well we are married so for him it wasn't about religion.

marriage is a scam, leave it at that. You can be happier being none than being.
