If your daughter has nits the chances are that the rest of the family have them too! Its ok they like clean hair! To kill them you should wash the hair through with vinegar and whilst still in the hair brush through with a lice comb (very small comb with sharp bristles close together, you can probably buy from a pharmacy or supermarket) then wash the vinegar out of the hair and use the nit shampoo. Brush with a normal brush and the eggs should start to come out. Do not leave the eggs in the hair, there is no guarantee of they are dead and you will just have a persistent problem. Use the vinegar though, it makes your hair as flat as a pancake but it works theres something about it they hate! Tell your childs school teacher as well then they can send a letter home to all the parents (without mentioning your child) this way you stop it going round and round in circles! Good luck I haven't had them in years but had them all the time when I was little and my Mum always got out the vinegar!

When my red haired daughter got nits we had her hair cut short and then used a mild solution of vinegar and the nit comb. The vinegar dissolves the cement the fleas or lice secrete when they lay their eggs (the nits). You can buy a special shampoo in the chemist to get rid of the insects and the nits. It smells horrible but works practically overnight. Try and find out where she got the nits from at school or nursery, as if the source is not cleared she will get re-infested. Good Luck

Ok the first thing you have already done treated the nits chemically. I talked to a doctor about this and he has said combing every single day, rinse any eggs you see in the comb or use tissue to get them off the comb before you do the next stroke and wash your comb in the machine after (use a fine plastic comb you buy in the chemist).Constant brushing will disturb eggs and prevent reinfestation. Pay particular attention to behind the ears and the nape of the neck. Don't miss a day of combing with the nit comb, always wash it after, do use conditioner when you wash your childs hair. Tell her not to use other peoples combs hats etc. (once in a while leave conditioner in her hair overnight.).
Change her pillow case every night for a while. Be paitent and you will get there...I did.

Get some Tree tea conditioner and comb this through the hair with nit comb! Do this on a regular basis, and you find she will no longer have nits. My 3 boys constantly had nits, I started doing this 2/3 times a week and have not seen a nit since! BLISS

There are a few things you can do to get rid of the lice. First, redo the RID treatment. Second, go through her hair with a nit comb, and this may take a long time, but I remember my mom doing it to me when I had lice. Next, get some of that dark-colored Neutrogena shampoo, not the pretty new stuff but the older stuff made for people wtih scalp conditions, and use that until the bottle is empty. If you still have lice after that, then maybe it is time for a head shaving! :)

I had the same problem with my niece and my grandmother told me of something she use to use and it really worked. After treating them with lice shampoo and washing it out allow hair to dry and soak it in baby oil. Use a fine tooth comb and the nit eggs literally slid off the hair because the oil keeps them from having anything to stick too. Good luck and try this. After over a month of dealing with my niece's lice problem because we couldn't get rid of the nit eggs I did it once and it worked. Make sure to wash the baby oil out well to remove the rest of the eggs you miss with the comb.

Unfortunately, the best way is to put some kind of oil on her hair and then pick them out one by one. My wife used olive oil and her fingernails.
There is also a product you can get at Wal-Mart that helps remove the nits and comes with a nit removal comb. You can usually find it by the lice shampoo.

I know a lot of people have responded to this. But I wanted to say that you should buy the metal comb. I don't think that plastic ones work very well. I use to have lice and eggs when I was younger and my mom sat with me for maybe 2 hours combing my hair and I have never had them since. I think the metal comb is called the LiceMaster, it has a yellow handle.

You have to divide her hair into small sections...go through 10-15 strands at a time...throughout the entire head. This can take hours...do in a brightly lit area. Do this every day for 2 weeks...check once a week in 1inch sections for 4wks afterward..to ensure she is not re-infected. Bag all toys, clothes and linens that can not be washed. Use boiling water to hair items that are not bagged. Dust and hand wash all surfaces...including floors. Vacuum daily. Discard the bag after each use. Vacuum or wipe thoroughly..your furniture. No sleep for you for a few days...and it's pretty expensive. Keep your child's hair up when exposed to other children, with hair gel. Children are very universal and like to share....vinyl jackets and book bags for school are recommended.
