the partner wants to sell the house, does anybody know how long i can wait for the full asking price? The reason for this is so that it will give me the chance to clear debts. If somebody comes along and offers the full asking price i would sell as this would give me the extra cash to clear the debt but that is in an ideal world.

This is something that has to be agreed between you and your partner. They may be prepared to wait for a certain period of time but not indefinitely which you cannot blame them for. Explain that the more you sell the house for the more your partner will have to come at the end of the sale and they may well agree readily to a year or even more depending on their own financial circumstances. Hi,
I am in a similar situation. As far as I know, you don't have to sell for anything under the asking price. My house has been on the market for 9 months and I am so much better off for it. Hang in there and sort yourself out, never an easy time.

I think you can hold out for your asking price for a little while. Talk to your partner and if they agree then you should be okay. Also, if you bought the house together then any extra you make on the house you will have to split with them. I would definitely speak with a lawyer though.

If the property is in joint names then it takes both parties to say yes to a sale....................... so the answer is as long as you want. The only problems I can see is the mortgage, insurances, council tax and all services will still need to be paid until you sell and if you fall out with your X over the selling price things may get difficult.

A mate of mine split from his Wife and he had the house on the market for over 5 years. She had moved into her toyboys house so he just inflated the asking price and sat tight.
