Since my boyfriend and I can't have kids...we are gonna have a ferret...It was already approved by his 1st and 2nd opinion Doctors. It's sorta like a baby shower...lol..My friend got us the cage...you know a starter kit and what not....another friend got us baby names for ferrets...I bought gloves..So what other supplies besides the litterbox, litter, and bedding...I heard Skin So Soft from Avon is good? So what are your suggestions? All answers to me at the best.

I agree rabbit pellets are the best! They LOVE them!! As a matter of fact you might want to get a rabbit soley for the purpose of dropping pellets so you can feed them to the ferret.

Wait....lemme get this straight.....you're substituting a baby for a ferret? Why do you need gloves and Avon Skin So Soft? What are 1st and 2nd opinion doctors?
I used to own several ferrets (all given up by people who thought they'd be cool pets only to find out that they are more work than a dog and a cat put together) so all of these warnings come with experience.....they seem to poop twice the amount they eat. I do not understand it. They smell funny no matter what you do and I do not recommend using any Avon stuff on them, they have ferret shampoo, not to kill their odor but to wash off the aforementioned poop they will roll in while wrestling with their toys. They always crap in the corner, no matter what you do (they make triangular litterboxes for those). They are escape artists. I have found ferrets running wild on 2 occasions, once outside of a grocery store and once in a neighborhood. One of mine got out a second story window and leaped off the edge before I could blink. Luckily, he landed in overgrown grass and was just a little shaken up. They will kill stuff smaller than them, like birds and hamsters (I lost a very sweet hamster that way). Your house should be ferret proofed, and make sure they can't get under your couch or bed because they will rip out the lining underneath to climb up in there. Make sure they can't get into vents or out windows or any cracks or crevices because they WILL if it's there. They are thieves and run off with things (hairbrushes, food, coins). It's like having mischevious little monkeys. Now, with all the negatives out of the way, I must say I loved my ferrets dearly and they are hilarious to watch - you'll understand the first time it runs to you with something stuck over it's head. They like those hammocks too. Don't feed them cat food. Ferrets are known to get certain kidney diseases and I think proper diet would greatly reduce that risk. Be prepared to clean more often and be vigilant about keeping them safe.

Ferrets like cat toys a lot. I think that they must have similar interest. I had one and it used to like little soft balls that were cat toys but looked like little nurf balls. My ferret also really liked leather. She would steal leather gloves out of jackets and drag them across the room to her hiding spot.
You will need to ferret proof your house. They will try to get under your couch, into your walls, behind your refrigerator...anywhere that there is an opening. They are very curious creatures.
I bought a leash to try to 'walk' my ferret. She never took a liking to it and it was a waste of money.
My ferret really liked it when I put a blanket on the floor and spread it out, but raised parts of it so a 'tunnel' would form at one end of the blanket. She would go into the tunnel and spend lots of time 'digging' her way through the tunnel.
Get a VERY young ferret. Wait out the pet shop and keep checking back. I got mine at 6 weeks old. I spent a lot of time holding her and trying to break her from biting right from the get go. I would tap her on her nose if she nipped at me. I ended up with a pretty tame ferret that didn't bite. Many of my friends didn't spend the time up front disciplining on that fact and the ferret would be pretty nippy. Mine wasn't like that.
Keep in mind that ferrets are more like dogs and cats than an hamster. They need lots of time every day running outside of their cage. Keep them in their cage when you aren't there for their own protection.
Good luck.

I would wait until you got the ferret to name it. You'll need to see his/her personality. Think of something clever, though, because ferrets are very very clever. Their scientific name actually means "smelly little thief", so think up names that go with that theme. Bandit might be a good choice. Again, I'd wait until you get the ferret, though.

What? The other answers are crazy. Do some research online. I'm sure there are entire sites devoted to the care of ferrets. Just keep in mind that they STINK. Good luck.

Lots and lots of Rabbit droppings. Ferrets love rabbit droppings. Ferrets can't ever get enough of those little roly poly brown pellets of rabbit love. Fed'em lots & feed'em often.
