I want to take up a few horror novels and I want to see of anyone has some good suggestions.
Also i should state that i looking for books that are little more recent, like in the last 20 years ( I'm sure all that victorian stuff is really good but i want something that is more modern)

Neil Gaiman is one of my favorites. I highly recommend "American Gods." And although he's a little older than you were looking for, I also recommend Harlan Ellison. "Deathbird Stories" and "The Beast That Cried Love at the Heart of the World" are two personal favorites, but it's pretty much all good.

"Ring" by Koji Suzuki is another good one. It inspired the movies and has two sequels, though I have yet to read those.

Patrick McGrath is another very good writer and a somewhat under-rated one at that. His debut work, "Blood and Water and Other Tales" is definitely worth your while. A novel of his, "Spider" was recently made into a movie with Ralph Fiennes.

"Kornwolf" by Tristan Egolf, while not strictly horror, has some truly horrific moments and shouldn't be missed. It's also hilariously on-target in terms of it's portrayal of small-town Pennsylvania. (Believe me, I know.)

A lot of people really like Poppy Z. Brite, but I can't speak for that since I've never read her. They say "Exquisite Corpse" is really something, though not for the faint-of-heart.

Also, I profoundly endorse the reading of "The House of Leaves" by Mark Z. Danielewski. It'll mees you up, blow out your brains and then put them back together so they work differently. Worth it, I promise you.

Have a good time with your reading!

See the links below for perfect summaries. Carmilla via Sheridan Le Fanu. that's older than Dracula and is a Vampire tale regarding 2 young women, and one women father, all remoted from society. Frankenstein via Mary Shelly. something via Stephen King. yet i might strongly propose It, The Stand, Geralds game or Rose Madder. The Anne Rice Chronicles pre- Memnoch the devil. So i might initiate with Interview with a Vampire, the Vampire Armand and Queen of the Damned. The Curious Case of well-being care expert Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The Hound of Baskervilles (it extremely is somewhat of a secret however, using fact it extremely is Sherlock Holmes. on the completed that's a sort of Gothic text textile.)

Carrie, Salem's Lot, The Shining and The Stand by Stephen King are all good reads. I'm not a big fan of his more recent novels but his early work is a lot of fun.

I don't know if it's horror fiction... It's just horror.
Try:
Any R.L. Stine roman ( all are great) but first try from him:
" The Face",
"The new girl",
"Bad dreams",
"Dear Diary, I'm dead" ( 1st an 2nd part),
"The Neighbor",
" Into the darkness" ( I'm not sure is that the title, because I'm from Croatia and then the title is translated),
I read all of them and they are all great.

My friends suggested:
" Locker number 13"
" Deadly summer"
"Miss Prom" ( I think I spelled wrong)
Never read it so i don't guarantee it's good.

John Saul, Stephen King...Both are fantastic horror fiction writers. I would pick John Saul before Stephen King though, John Saul is scarier without the weirdness. Good luck!

Thomas M. Disch's horror novels are great. They've got both horror and a dark sense of humor. Try 'The Businessman' or 'The Sub'
Stephen King's the master. 'Carrie','Salem's Lot', and 'The Shining' are all great, and better than the movies they inspired at scaring your pants off.

The Beast Within (ISBN: 0425052222) by Edward Levy!

The Beast Within was one of the first, and creepiest, novels I have ever read. It got me hooked on horror novels for a long, long time. I think I read it in two days.

If you like King, Straub, or Koontz you will love this book.
