It might be funny next year, but this year is a bad idea. His death is still fresh, and many people will be offended.

I concur with the others hear, that would be in bad taste. Now, if you dressed up as Steve Irwin and your girlfriend dressed up as a crocodile, or snake, or something that would be fine. You could thus use the costumes to honor a great man who died tragically doing what he loved. But since you say you are already making the stingray costume, perhaps you should stick to a purely marine theme.

I think it's tacky. I went to a party the other night and a couple dressed like Steve and Terry. Steve had a stingray attached to his chest. People didn't like it much.
In all black and a few accessories you can probably pick up anywhere (a cape, cat ears, etc), there's alot you can do.

VERY bad tase. Just find something around the house and put together a costume. If you have a black blazer, white shirt, back pants and sunglasses (which most people do) be a "Chick in Black"!! (as in Men in Black...) I did that once and got a VERY good response...

it's not morbid, but it IS in very bad taste.
that's like if your dad just died, and someone showed up at your halloween party wearing your dad's clothes with face paint and fake blood, saying they were your dad as a zombie.

Depends on the sort of crowd that will be there, but I think most people would think that was in poor taste. I don't think anyone will get it until you tell them.

I agree, it's not a very good idea. He was a real person after all, if it happened to someone you know, I don't think you'd find it in good taste? Always think of how you'd feel......

It really is bad taste because he was a beloved figure of many. I don't think too many people will be amused by it.

Perhaps you are too young to understand why, but this is in very poor taste.
When you are older and have more experience of the world, you will understand.
