Until the 1950's First Degree Rape was a capital crime in California. Carl Chessman was the last rapist executed in California. Now I believe it is a Life Sentence, which means they can serve anywhere from 7-years to life.
Other states have different punishments.

This would depend on what State you are in. Rape is typically the most serious grade of sex offense, and first degree the most serious grade of offense so plan on a lengthy sentence.

I don't think there are degrees for rape - there's rape and then statutory rape. I don't remember the exact jail term, but I believe it was somewhere between 5-10 years.
