how to connect to an existing non-apple wireless network with my new mac pro. sorry i'm a new user of mac?

Usually the mac will detect the network automatically, you just have to select it and enter a password if required. Thats how it's always worked for me. No messing about.

You don't need an apple specific wireless anything. Use any wireless router with any ISP..

Create a new Internet connection:

To create an Internet connection in Mac OS X, do the following:

On the Toolbar, click the Apple icon and select Location -> Network Preferences from the menus.





The System Preferences window appears.

Location = Click the Down arrow and select New Location from the menu.





The following window appears:

Name your new location = Give the new connection a name.

Click the OK button.





We return to the following window:

TCP/IP tab:

Configure = Ensure you select Using PPP from the menu.

Domain Name Servers = This is optional. It's best just to leave this section blank.





Select the PPP tab.

Service Provider = Enter the name of your Internet Service Provider.
Telephone Number = Enter the access number you use to connect to the Internet.

Account Name = Enter the username you use to connect to the Internet.
Password = Enter the password of your Internet connection.

Important: Passwords are case-sensitive. Ensure your Caps Lock key is DISabled.

Check the box Save password.

Click the PPP Options button.





The following window appears:

Session Options:

If you'd like to use a browser, e-mail client, ftp client, etc. to connect to the Internet, check the box Connect automatically when starting TCP/IP applications.

Enable any other Session Options to your liking.

Advanced Options:

Ensure you check Send PPP echo packets.
Ensure you check Use TCP header compression.

You can leave all other Advanced Options Disabled.

Click the OK button.





Select the Proxies tab.

If your using a proxy server for filtering or browsing acceleration, you should have the following:

Check the option Web Proxy (HTTP).

Address = Enter the address of the proxy server.
Port = Enter the port number you use to access the proxy server.

Note: If you're using filtering and do not want anyone to make changes to the proxy, you can lock the proxy settings by closing the lock in the bottom, left-hand corner. The only way to disable the lock is by entering the administrator password.





Select the Modem tab.

Modem = Ensure you select the proper modem from the menu. Mac should do this automatically.
Sound = If you'd like to hear the modem dial, select the option On.
Dialing = Select the type of dial tone you have — Tone or Pulse.

Check the option Wait for dial tone before dialing.

When finished, click the Save button.

Your Help guide on the Mac tells you how to connect to an Airport network. Other wireless networks are just about the same.

But before you struggle too much with this, is it your network or someone else's network? Maybe you will need a password. In that case, I can't recommend any option other than contact the network owner. Trying to sneak into someone else's network is not nice.
