hell yes for some people those dogs are their only friends and it makes me sad that so many people answering this Q are too selfish to help their fellow man. so what if they do drink, can you blame then when they have absolutely nothing else to look forward too. Don't think it cannot happen to you I knew one homeless bloke who used to be a bank manager but lost it when his wife died and ended up on the street. Respect to the big issue for giving people a chance to help themselves

Yes I would, not everyone on the streets begging with or without a dog is a low life on drugs, some of them genuinely do have a reason for been on the street and usually through no fault of their own, circumstance and home life isn't always great for everyone, most of them on the streets with dogs do actually look after their dog better than themselves, some of those guys on our street today are ex army who have been ousted by everyone since they came back from the Falklands many years ago and Iran, I think if some of us stopped criticising so much and actually stopped and spoke to these poor people we might find out they are not all scum of the earth drunks and druggies, but ordinary people like ourselves and there but for the grace go I, I will always give them money.

Depends on how old the beggar is. If he's a healthy middle aged guy then I wouldn't toss a dime. He's just using begging as an excuse to earn an easy buck.
If it's an old man or woman, I would and if he/she are constantly there I would probably try contacting a shelter to offer the beggar aid.
If it's a kid, I'd buy him a meal and call welfare immediately. That's probably someone's son or daughter who ran away from home or if it's not, the poor kid deserve's a better life.

No, I give a few quid to the Salvation Army, paying the beggar only keeps them on the street, sadly it's often a drink and or drugs problem. The Salvation army ensures they get fed and have a hot drink, they do a great job

I use to, but after seeing one of them go and buy liquor I stopped giving money. Now I will go to the nearest fast food restaurant and buy food and drink for both of them.
