Is there any difference?

One of the main thrusts behind cigars' popularity is the belief that they are a safe alternative to cigarettes because the smoke is not inhaled, and because cigars are commonly used only occasionally and not daily. Traditionally, cigar smokers hold the smoke in their mouth and throat, allowing nicotine and other chemical compounds to be absorbed through the mucous lining of the mouth and throat, rather than inhaling the smoke into their lungs.

A smoker can spend more than an hour puffing on a cigar, which has the equivalent risk of oral cancers as smoking a pack of cigarettes a day. Daily cigarette smokers and daily cigar smokers have similar levels of risk for oral cancers. Smokers who smoke more than five cigars per day have lung cancer risks comparable to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day.

The real difference between cigar and cigarette smoking is the type of cancers that cigar smokers develop, which is usually a head or neck cancer instead of the lung cancer so common among cigarette smokers. Unfortunately, people who switch from using cigarettes to cigars tend to smoke cigars the way they smoked cigarettes: by inhaling deeply and smoking often. Inhalation seems to raise the health risks of cigars so that the smoker will face the same health risks as with cigarette smoking.

Unlike cigarettes, cigars do not have filters to reduce their tar and nicotine content. Cigar packages do not carry the Surgeon General's health warnings that are required on other tobacco products. Like cigarettes, the additives in cigars are not regulated by any consumer or governmental agency and do not have to be reported or put on the label.

No, you inhale all of it. If you don't inhale, the desired substance won't be absorbed into your body. You light a cigarette once and it stays lit. A hookah, if loaded properly, should remain "cherried". A marijuana pipe must be continuously lit each time you take a hit, unless it happens to become "cherried". Hookah smoking material is designed to stay "cherried", marijuana is just something that grows naturally. Marijuana pipes will also often have something called a "carb", which is a small hole on the side of the bowl, underneath the chamber where the marijuana is loaded. You plug the hole with your thumb while lighting the bowl, as the pipe fills with smoke, and release the hole once the pipe has filled with what's taken to be enough smoke for a suitable hit. When the carb's open the smoke flows a lot faster, you see. Marijuana is also often smoked from water pipes called bubblers and bongs, which I can explain to you if you'd like.

cigar smoke which (ideally) stays in the oral cavity vs. cigarette smoke enters the lungs, so your internal organs are more exposed to cigarette smoke. cigarettes induce an addictive behavior (chain-smoking) vs. cigars - used (usually) for pleasure and not smoked often. cigars have no tar filter unlike cigarettes (except the rolled version or the filterless luckies).

both can contribute to respiratory conditions and/or cancer.
I've quit (2 years already) but when I have a smoking craving (once or twice a year), I just reach for a good cigar. you should too. good luck.

It is where you get cancer. Cigarette smoking causes lung cancer more than cigars. Cigars go more for the cheek and upper throat. Other than that, the risks for everything else are the same.

Cigars will cause cancer of the jaw bone whereas cigarettes will cause lung cancer faster than cigars.
Hope that helps you enjoy your next smoke.

Cigarettes are somewhat more dangerous because they are smoked more often, they are inhaled, and they are more likely to cause a more dangerous type of cancer (lung cancer).

Cigar smokers typically smoke less, do not inhale, and if they contract cancer it's usually mouth or tongue cancer.

It is unusual to inhale cigar smoke to the extent that cigarette smoke is inhaled, so it is slightly less healthy.

First, you don't or shouldn't be inhaling cigar smoke. They both cause cancers.
