To elaborate on an above answer, mechanical engineering is always a good choice to get into the automobile industry, but the internals of cars (engine aside) are increasingly more electronic and less mechanical, so electrical engineering is also a good choice.
Although there would probably be a significantly smaller demand, another option may be materials science, where you could study, for example, how to make the necessary materials for a vehicle frame lighter while retaining its strength.
