this is a simple fix if the whole reason you want to add the other drive is cause the 1st one isnt working just do a windows repair with the cd. stick in the disk- reboot- press any key to boot from cd when prompted- the computer will do its thing for a minute- when its done you will have 3 choices 1. install windows 2. repair windows 3. quit choose repair-then you will be givin the choice to use the recovery console or let windows repair-choose let windows repair- the computer will do its thing again then reboot-after reboot it will do more repair stuff it will seem like it is doing a fresh install but its not- you will be prompted for some basic info like date, time language and keyboard layout- when this process completes you should be good to go. you wont lose any data on that hard drive after this so dont worry. the only things you may have to fix are a couple of drivers and maybe reinstall a couple of programs. sometimes programs dont work right after this. the data will still be there. so all you would haver to do is save the data folder for the program somewhere out side that folder then reinstall the program and add the data back to the directory you took it from. good luck let me know if you need more help.

You can surely install Windows XP on the second Hard Disk Drive. You cannot simply rename the Hard Disk Drive that is giving you Errors.

Set your second Hard Disk Drive as the Master Drive ( via the jumpers at the back of it ( near the power Connector). You will also have to set the older Drive as the Slave Drive ( again via the jumpers at the back of it ( near the power Connector).

Now go into the BIOS Setup of the Computer ( by hitting DEL, F1, F2 or some such keys) and set it to boot from Primary Hard Disk Drive.

Make sure that all the Drives( Hard Disk drives, CD Rom Drives DVD Drives ) etc. are set to be recognized by the Computer. Boot from your Primary Hard Disk Drive.

Now once Windows boots up you will see that all your Drives are recognized(if they are setup properly in the BIOS).

You can now access access the Files and Programs installed on your Slave Hard Disk Drive ( old Drive).

Hello if I were you I would do the following:
1.- Take out the actual hard disk from the computer (In order to be the new one the only hd in the pc)
2.- Install the new hard disk.
3.- Install windows over the new hard disk until it works with the computer perfectly
4.- Install again the old hard disk but as a slave, it means that the old hard disk will be working as a secondary disk, being the new one the principal.

If you do all this you would copy the information stored on the old hard disk to the new one and if you want, format the old one to make it ready and better to store more info or install windows on it. I hope It will be helpul to you and excuse my english but it is not my native language

Yes, you can install Windows xp on the second hard drive, boot from that drive, and access the files in the first drive. Just set the new drive to boot before the old drive (in the BIOS).

you don't need to even rename them..... just set the new one as master.... or when you boot and the first screen comes up... keep hitting F8 until it brings you to the boot menu... then boot from the secondary hard drive.... ;) I think you can probably fix yoru problem by creating a boot disk and booting from that... then run the fixboot utility from command prompt
