So, they mapped all the genes in humans. What do you think will come of it? How long do you think it will take?

Mapping the human genome is helping scientists find where certain genetic traits, such as inherited diseases, are located on our chromosomes. The hope is that this will lead to treatments for diseases that cause much human suffering. Some of these treatments are already being tested.

Science often raises more questions than answers. One surprise from the project was the discovery that there was very little difference between our DNA and that of the Chimpanzee, which has in turn led to the discovery that DNA is only part of our heredity, that chemicals that bind to the DNA helix, our "Epigenome", are crucial in heredity and the development of different types of cells.

Anyone who tells you " My research will solve problem X and will take Y resources and Z time" is probably, at the very best, an extreme optimist. Science is like shining a flashlight into a dark room - you may think you know what is there, but what you find may be something else. The Genome Project was exploration into the unknown, like Columbus sailing to India and ending up finding someplace else. Like Columbus, who reported home not even realizing what he had found, the Genome Project is spawning new "voyages of discovery". This person, along with many others, believes that the Human Genome Project will be viewed as a milestone in biology, but the results are too new to be judged fairly.

obviously this will open to many doors...maybe it can be considered good or bad, but cloning. I personally feel that this is not a good idea, and i am pretty sure that someone found out how effective cloning is done, I mean, how long do u think it would take the scientists to figure out how to clone a human. Dolly itself was a long time ago. I think that we are just getting way to advanced, that eventually all this technology and advancements that we make, not in just biology speaking, we will end up harming our own self. Yes, figuring out the human genome will have some benefits from curing some diseases to other solutions, but in the end, we will end up hurting ourselves.

Well now that they mapped all the genes, they would be able to identify mutations and diseases faster.
