i love halloween. i just cant decide on what to be. i usually make my costume. ideas?

How about:
Grecian Goddess -- wrap a white sheet around you toga-style, glue some bay leaves to an old hair band, and make yourself a torch out of a flashlight and some papier-mache/stiff paper. Wear white makeup, or just powder your face with corn starch or flour (bring more for touch ups during the night. Wear your hair up -- it it's short, use orange juice to keep it in place. Heck, if it's long, use orange juice to keep the strays from flying out. (Orange juice washes out, and leaves your hair soft and silky.)
Pirate is also do-able from household stuff, if you have knee-high boots. If you don't, you may have to be a low-level pirate in deck shoes. I think the footwear is key -- otherwise, it's a bandanna or square piece of cloth tied around your head, and adorned with old necklaces -- the more the better. White shirt, black leggings, and a red sash (another piece of fabric). Swords are nice, too -- you can get one at the dollar stores. You can make a neck-flounce by folding a little white fabric (lace handkerchief would be great if you have one), and tying it around your neck under the shirt collar.
Modern witch -- just like Samantha in Bewitched! Pull out your little black dress, and make a black hat out of construction paper (or buy one at a dollar store). One of those old-fashioned cigarette holders is a nice touch -- so are pearls. If you don't want to promote tobacco, make a magic wand by painting a dowel rod black, adding a few black curlies (cut from black paper), and a paper or fabric star on top.
Punk rocker -- ripped T-shirt, leggings, big belt. Orange juice hair (see tip for Grecian Goddess). Lots of eye makeup. Papier mache a guitar, if you are ambitious (-:.

Use a few old white sheets as a toga. Simple. Do your hair, stick some fake leaves in it, sport some sandles-- you're good to go. Or, if you're like me, just use some stuff in your closet. I'm going to we're a flannel shirt, some worn jeans, my cowboy hat, my boots, a lot of hairspray, and go as a country chick. Why the Hell not.

Wear your p.j.s, and a rope, put a towel in your hair, and a facial mask on and go out. Its really funny I did it last year and people loved it some one even thought i was their wife! + its super comfy!!!

What I did once when my girl was only 3 was buy a huge stuffed animal bumble bee. I gutted the thing and stuffed her into it. It looked great.
