I've heard of candling, warm water, warm olive oil, hydrogen peroxide. But what is the best method to get rid of ear wax without seeing your doctor?

Generally, I like homeopathic stuff, but I've tried ear candling twice, and both times I ended-up with an inner-ear infection. (Otitis Media)
It looks neat, but I was not convinced that all that gooey stuff actually came from my ears. As much as I'd like to believe that ear candling works, I think the modern Internet has proven that it doesn't. (Use Google images and search for ear candling)
I will probably not try it again out of fear of another infection.

I've also tried Hydrogen Peroxide for ear wax, but it didn't seem to do anything. Warm oils probably do the best job of loosening wax - solely because of their mechanical (warmness) and chemical properites (oil & wax are similar)

Many people love the idea of owning a dog but one thing that they have to keep in mind often times, is that the dog needs to be trained. While the pet may look heart-breakingly cute when it's in a shelter or at the pound, picking out the dog is only the first part of the relationship between dog owner and the animal. Many people don't understand that they have to put time and effort into socializing the dog.

An unsocialized dog will intimidate others, tear up the home, and will create an environment that can become so bad that the it will have to be returned. Many times when dogs have to be returned to shelters or to other resources, it will end up euthanized, which is very heartbreaking. All of this can be spared if a person learns the various techniques in order to socialize the dog.

One thing that they have to understand is that the he wants to be told what to do. It's in the canine nature to follow a leader. The dog will be more than willing to obey the leadership of its master. Here's a look at some common techniques that are used in dog training:

"Dog Whispering"

This is a technique that has been around for a while, but gained national notoriety over the last 10 years. Some people might hear this term and wonder how in the world whispering to a dog can train it! Whispering isn't meant to be taken literally in this case. As trainers have shown, whispering is a term that refers to connecting with a being or an entity on a very deep and almost spiritual level. When it comes to dog training techniques, dog whispering involves careful observation of the dog's behavior and actions.

It literally entails getting inside the mind and the behavior system of the canine. When a person uses dog whispering techniques, they interact with the dog on the canine level. Again, one the most common mistakes that people make is treating the dog like a small human being.

"Reward Training"

Reward training is very simple and it's one of the older tricks that works. This is a simple method of training the dog by positive reinforcement. Once he does what it is told to do, it receives a treat. How this works is that the dog owner must entice the dog towards the treat. Once the canine develops awareness for the treat, it develops a strong desire for it. When the desire for it is extremely strong, the dog owner pulls back. Then the dog receives a command and when the dog obeys the command, it receives the treat. The object is to make the dog associate a treat with the command.

"Clicker Training"

Other dog training techniques include one that is similar to reward training, which is called clicker training. How this works is that the clicker is incorporated to get the dog's attention. The clicker is clicked as a form of communication with the dog. It learns that there is a command or reward associated in conjunction with the clicker. Many people claim that this is fun, and they actually make a game with the dog by using the clicker for their dog training tasks.

"Ultrasonic Whistle"

Last, a relatively new form of dog training technique is called the ultrasonic whistle. This works because the ultrasonic sound is only heard by the dog. When the owner is trying to communicate a command, or stop the dog from barking, they will blow on their whistle when they want to communicate a command to the dog. The benefit of this is that the humans can't hear this noise, but the dog can hear it, and they will learn to associate the sound with a command.

Dog training techniques aren't hard to incorporate, but they are something that absolutely must be incorporated from the time a dog owner brings their new dog home. No matter how old or how young the dog is, they will need training. Once they are trained properly, they will be a wonderful addition to one's family.

Ear Candles Walgreens

OK so lets set this straight. I've looked in people's ears with an otoscope and cleaned them until there was nothing in there. (Its easy to see all the way in with the scope). Then applied ear candles and magically it appeared as though all this stuff was coming out. ITS THE CANDLE WAX!!! The candle wax melts and runs down to the bottom of the funnel. Ear candles are the single biggest rip off out there. There really is no other product of any kind that is a bigger joke.

You will always have more and more ear wax produced, its supposed to work that way. Sorry if its a nuisance.

Has the vet looked for a fungal infection in his ears? That will often create wax deep down inside the ears like you are seeing. But until the source of the infection's still there (the yeast) nothing you do to clean the ears is going to help.

Apply a couple of drops of warm Olive Oil 2x daily for 4-5 days, then apply olive oil 1x daily (at night) and sodium bicarbonate ear drops 1x daily (in the morning) for 3-4 days. This should clear your ears. For maintainance treatment, apply olive oil drops 2x weekly.

When putting drops in your ears, put your head on one side, and apply the drops to the upper ear. Keep your head in this position for 5 mins, before treating the other ear.

Do not put cotton wool into your ears, as this just absorbs the oil, rather than it working on the wax.

When it comes to removing excessive/impacted ear wax, the initial step is to use a safe and effective agent to soften the wax. One common recommendation is to gently irrigate the ear using a otic bulb syringe filled with warm water. However, caution must be used to make sure that all water is removed so that there is no risk of infection due to water-clogged ears. It is also important to note that cotton tipped swabs or other foreign objects
should not be used to remove ear wax or water. You should not try and remove ear wax yourself if you have any of the following: signs of infection, pain associated with ear discharge, bleeding or signs of trauma, ear surgery within 6 weeks prior, hypersensitivity to recommended agents, or being less than 12 years of age. Ear wax should be removed only when it has migrated to the outermost portion of the ear. The only recommended way to remove ear wax that doesn't involve using a drug is to use a wet, wrung-out washcloth draped over a finger. Making this part of your daily hygiene routine can prevent ear wax from being impacted. This method
is often not effective it the ear wax is already impacted. Carbamide peroxide 6.5% in anhydrous glycerin is approved as safe and effective in softening, loosening, and removing excessive earwax in adults and children ages 12 years and older. Any wax remaining after treatment may be removed with gentle warm-water irrigation administered with a rubber otic bulb syringe. However, it is important to be sure to use the bulb properly so that excess moisture is not left in the ear canal and ear wax is not further impacted. Carbamide peroxide solution is generally considered to be nonirritating and may be used twice daily for up to 4 days. Adverse effects reported after proper use include pain, rash, irritation, tenderness, redness, discharge, or dizziness. If adverse effects develop or symptoms persist after 4 days, you should should see your primary care provider for evaluation
Hydrogen peroxide 3% has been used to flush the ear canal when softening or removing earwax. Because hydrogen peroxide solutions contain water, overuse may cause the ear to become infected due to excessive water being left in the canal. Olive oil has been used as a home remedy to soften ear wax as well as used to help with itching and pain in the ear canal. However, it is important to note that using olive oil may delay seeking proper treatment. Using ear candles is very dangerous and is not recommended.
Studies have shown that this method does not aid in removing wax but has caused serious ear injuries and burns. The FDA issued an alert warning against the import and sale of these devices in 2007.

Candling is dangerous and does not remove the ear wax. The best at home is over the counter earwax removal drops. Apply daily for severe impaction of wax.
