I have gone back to school for a B.S. degree in Business Management. In this program, 5-6 classes are electives. I transferred in some classes in Sales and Marketing the will fulfill this requirement. Is it strange that there is not definite minor?

It's not completely unheard of, but I think it would be in your best interest to attend a school that offers a minor.

Just having a second area in which you hone some education and expertise is better than just one area.

But I don't think it's a huge deal.

Some programs do not require a minor. With a business degree, you can always take more classes in one area (eg. Marketing or Management) and specialize in that particular field. Most employers will not ask for a minor, and a business degree is broad enough for you to apply to almost any field or industry. A minor comes in handy for graduate school, medical school or law school applications when you need to show admission officers that you have a well-rounded education.

You are not required to have a minor to get your bachelor's. Not all bachelor's courses will automatically get you a minor. You need to look up your courses.

For example I have a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education. I had to take Child Development. I found out I really enjoyed it and I talked to my professor about getting a minor in it. Turns out that all I had to do was take a couple extra classes that I didn't really have to because everything else I had to take anyway, and I had a minor in Child Development. A minor is not required but does look good on your resume especially if it connects with your degree

No. Many degree program majors do not have assigned minors. This does not prevent you from choosing your own minor, unless the college does not offer a minor. Check with your adviser and see if there is a minor which will complement your degree or your interests.

Most people don't have a minor.

Most employers don't look at what your minor was. The major is all that is important.
