Yes you will get into trouble if you leave the country to avoid the draft. 1) If the government finds out where you are they can bring you back to the US for trial if the country your in does not grant you asylum. 2) The only reason the draft dodgers in Vietnam aren't being prosecuted now is because they were given a presidential pardon.

No if the democrats get control of the congress there won't be a draft. This idea that it would be the democrats is crap. The republicans have control of every branch of government and they are the ones that are starting wars. And you don't need to take your boyfriend to Canada, just ask the Vice President, he can tell you how to get out of doing you duty.

To the person that said that he would be the first to sign up, two things:

a) you don't "sign up" for the draft all men are included.
b) you don't need to wait for the draft, I bet you can find a recruitment office near by. If your so want to fight so bad, go now!

It has nothing to do with a Democrat or Republican being voted in. A military draft would happen if there weren't enough people in the military and there was a further expansion of fighting.

The people to listen to are the Secretary of Defense, and the Generals fighting. If they start asking for more people (lots more people) then, you'll start to hear about a draft. No worries for now.

But, to answer your question, going to Canada would be a one-way trip (that is if Canada would let you come). During Vietnam, a lot of guys moved up there. There are more 'rules' about moving to another country.

First off the opposite is likely more true that if the Republicans continue to hold on to both houses and the presidency a Draft would be in the offing. The volunteer army is history at this point, under the current regime. As for moving to Canada, I don't believe the Canadians would allow the same type of immigration they allow in the sixties sorry.

Yes, If you leave when your name is pulled you can not come back to the US because you will go to jail. Same thing happened after the Vietnam War. Oh and if the Democrats are voted in it might not be likely to happen, the Republicans are the ones who tried to pass the bill. Most likely the next president will be a Democrat, i tell you that because of here the war isn't getting too much support right now. Especially not from the Army families stationed overseas.

there will not be a draft. there is no support for that.
if you leave the country to avoid it, you can never come back
(because it's a crime to dodge the draft). But that is a myth
that if a dem gets elected there will be a draft. dems are trying to get us out of iraq war, so i don't know where that came from.
it's just not true.

Did you know that during WWII concerned Americans were signing-up in droves? OK, I know- shitty comparison with Pearl Harbor and all. But one thing that we have definitely taught the younger generations is this- everything will be handed to you on a silver platter. Maybe it's time we have a draft. EVERY American should have to serve in the Armed Forces!

yes, its illegal to leave the country for a draft, but if you talk with Clinton he'll teach you how to avoid the penalties for it. the likely hood of a draft is small, the likely hood of being called for the draft is even smaller.

besides wouldn't you want to serve your country?

Not if Reps stay in the majority. The only draft bills have been sponsored by Dems.
