No! You and your doc are right; the vagina is a mucous membrane and is self-cleaning. Washing the other part of your privates in the shower is all you should have to do. Douching encourages infection by forcibly pushing bacteria further up into your reproductive tract and upsetting the ph balance of your vagina.

Being a guy I have no clue. The only douche I had to do was two months ago on the other end so I wouldn`t dirty up the camera. The women in the exam room tried to make me feel comfortable, but my heine was sticking out uncovered. I felt so vulnerable and embarrassed. I have great respect for women for what they have to go through that us fellows take for granted.

using douche especially if not advised by a doctor can throw off your body's natural chemistry. Douches now have a vinegar/water recipe and can agitate the lining and even cause a reaction. If the doctor hasn't mentioned it, let your body clean itself.
Back in the day it was thought as "proper" for a woman to cleanse herself. Hey, they also used lemons to prevent contraception..We've come a long way.

Everybody does not use it. Generally speaking your body will cleanse itself and their is no need for it. It does mess with your bodys natural PH balance. If you do use one make sure its only vinegar and water and not one of the fresh smelly scented ones. They will irritate the inside of you. There is reason to use it if you get frequent yeast infections, as sometimes after your period your body needs help balancing the new PH level in your cycle and if you dont an infection will follow. If you are using it to feel clean or get rid of a smell its not the proper use for it and is not necessary. (if you have a smell see a DR) I'n general if you are not having problems listen to your DR and don't

I remember just before my wedding, my mother and I were in a pharmacy and she brought over a douche bag kit. She thought I would need it because I was going to be a married women and would be having S-E-X. I didn't know what would be more painful for her to hear, that douche bags were obsolete or that me and her about-to-be-son-in-law were already doing the wild thing! Yes, I chickened out and told her about the douche bag!

Douche is sprayed into the vagina, bathing just cleans the opening and libia area. Problem with douching is you are introducing potentiall irritants to the vagina and risk infection. Your OBGYN is right. The body naturally cleans itself.

No, not all women do. I used to when I was young, but then realized I didnt need to. I have never had a problem with odor. So, I just wash in the shower.

I don't think so. A nurse came to one of my classes in high school and told us they are actually bad for you and like you said, the body cleans itself. I've only had one friend that I know of that used on regularly.

some do, some don't. It varies. Sometimes, if one has an infection, it might help to use a betadine douche, but I think it's just to feel better, not help medically.

Douching is bad for you. Soap and water is fine.
