Constance, Constance,
Have you ever heard of the saying what you don't know, won't hurt you? Or how bout, "don't ask me questions and I won't tell lies"? Honesty is painful, but dishonesty excruciating. Think about it. If you feel you needed to protect feelings, that's fine. What about when the truth is revealed and all is lost. Including honesty, and trust... Most people can redeem themselves by excepting the reality of the smallness that they brought upon themselves and find ways never to put themselves in a position to lie again. In other words, get over it , bury it and never do it again. What is done is done.

Lying never works out. The truth may hurt but it's alot better than being lied to. Being married to a chronic lier myself I can say the lies certainly didn't spare me any pain. The truth always manages to come out. Maybe not today, or tomorrow.......but it does in the most unexpected ways. Now his words mean nothing because I can't beleive a thing he says. Good or bad.

It would depend on the reason for telling the lie. Lies can come back to hurt someone even more than telling them the truth. Search your soul and heart before making a final decision.

It depends on the lie.
If they ask you someting like, do you like their hair cut, but you hate it, but they can't change it, I would say yes, I love it. After all it's just hair, it will grow back. Now you know to go with him the next time he has a haircut.
If they're asking you if you love them, but you really don't, you have to tell the truth. Keeping a relationship going to spare the other persons feelings isn't right for either of you.

OK - in all my years one thing I've learned....for some cosmic reason, a lie you tell (no matter how little) will come back to you. Honesty is really the best policy. If someone you loved lied to you to "protect your feelings", wouldn't you feel a little bit betrayed and wonder if there are any more lies being told to you??

I have done this, and it turned out badly. You lie because you don't want to hurt them, to spare their feelings. But when they find out you lied, you now have 2 betrayals they know about to deal with at once. Always tell the truth, because it comes out eventually, and it hurts even more once you find out your lied to....and then it's hard to trust as well.

Yes. It's wrong. It's better to tell them the truth, and not a lie, because once they find out the truth then they will never trust you.

YES! it is wrong. I was lied to by my man...he lied in order to not hurt my feelings...in the end...the truth always comes out. It would have hurt a whole lot less if he had been honest from the get go.

A lie, is a lie, is a lie. No matter what your intentions, you still lied. Sometimes honesty hurts but lying always hurts more. I was lied to, my marriage ended and my ex will always be remembered as a liar.
