it depends, if going only by sun sign.
there is 3 possible ways.
the signs conjunct (same sign) - highest positive aspect (sometimes good)
the signs oppose (opposite element) - highest negative aspect (sometimes good if you think opposites attract)
the signs square (the other elements) - second highest negative aspect. (usualy ends up bad)
but take your entire charts into consideration
opposites are Water and Earth. Air and Fire. so if you are a Cancer your opposite would be Capricorn (earth) and the two squares would be Aries (Fire) and Libra (Air). hope that clarifys my ramblings.

Hmm, thinking about it I always seem to clash with other cardinal signs.
I think two cardinal signs would be successful financially, but not romantically in the long run.

A bit rough, as each wants to lead.
I knew an Aries and a Libra who went together and it generated some degree of sparks
