And leave out the sex, like we don't know it 'all works'. lol

Good storytelling, unique characters, a bit of suspense and some tongue-in-cheek comic relief.
Also, the movie needs a plot that does not insult my intelligence. I refuse to be entertained by Titanic, Dumb and Dumber, Snakes on a Plane, The Grudge, Saw, or most of the other crap that Hollywood produces for money rather than entertainment value. It should be intelligent and engaging, and the storyline should be something original.
Basically, it needs to be written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Outstanding script, great acting, visionary direction, and uncompromising editing. However since these things rarely exist together in the same movie. I'll settle for good guy beating the bad and girl and guy ending up together. Mushy old happy ending triumphs through adversity stuff.
Sidenote: The Count of Monte Cristo with Jim Caviezel comes pretty close. Action, good and evil, Guy gets girl. Yea.

Complete and utter fantasy. CG worlds, lots of special effects. I like a good story and believable charaters also. Good examples:
Aliens
LOTR
Harry Potter
Star Wars
Also another genre I like is movies that make you think on a deeper level and prick your consience like ...

The Shawshank Redemption

Jim carrey comedy, with Tom Cruise looks, and the voice and weirdness of Jack Nicolson, Oh and a feel good story, with loads of action and adventure and a bit of horror thrown for good measure.

well mi favorite movies r the kind that have action and really good romance...(tristan and isolde is one of my personal favorites, i don't care how well it did in the theater), i also love comedy (like liar liar...but action romance is a good genre. it pleases everybody

It has a little of everything. Comedy, drama, suspense, and an ending that totally surprises you and blows your mind.
