Maybe it will make the baby forgetful and hungry all the time? :)

Why are you asking if you're not really smoking it? Does it really matter what the effects are? You might have a perfectly healthy baby, even if you smoke crack while pregnant, but why even take the chance?

If you smoke enough of a drug during your pregnancy, your child very likely will be born addicted to that drug...and therefore has to go through withdrawal symptoms at birth. No baby should have to do that. Not to mention if that happens, you will very likely have a very cranky and upset baby for a long time, and can you blame them?

Marijuana can increase the chances at having a premature baby, or a baby with low birth weight. Both of which can lead to death.

There are a number of things that can happen. When I was pregnant with my second baby, I was smoking. I quit, then when I went to see my OB/GYN, I told him I did smoke it, but I had stopped. You know what he told me??? He said that as long as I don't smoke cigerettes the baby would be fine. He said smokin' 'grass' doesn't do anything to the baby. My third pregnancy I did smoke it, almost every day. And I felt so guilty when she was born, she was healthy, but she was so little. I was afraid to change her diaper and lift her leg, that I might break her little leg. I carried her full term, and she was only 5 lbs 5 oz. She's perfectly healthy, she's 10 months old now, she's petite for her age, but she has the cutest smile, the most kissable cheeks any baby has ever had, and she's the sweetest, smartest baby ever. Even though I feel like shyt for smoking while carrying her, I have to thank God every day for blessing me with a beautiful, healthy baby girl.

I read in an article once that the only known effect of smoking marijuana is that for up to the first five years of a child's life it can severely slow down their ability to learn. But that could have changed now. People are always finding new links to problems.

Taking any substance when pregnant can cause physical as well as developmental problems, birth defects, miscarriage and mental health problems later in life. Some babies are lucky enuf to be born without defect, it may not be the same for all babies.

The more the drug or alcohol is used the more at risk the baby is..The effect had on the person taking the drug/alcohol is the same as the effect on the baby.

Hope this helps

Pregnancy. Marijuana. Bad.
Ok, here's some details. Getting pregnant is going to be harder in the first place. Usually, male partners abuse the same substances that their female counterparts do. In men, marijuana decreases testosterone, sperm count, and potency. Needless to say, not a winning combination for conception. Women who smoke marijuana have increased risk of abnormalities in ovulation and therefore more infertility. This risk is enhanced when the use is within one year before attempting conception. This risk did not change with frequency or length of use. So, that means that even occasional use of small amounts of marijuana can decrease women's fertility.

But many women overcome those hurdles. Then, they go on to have higher rates of spontaneous abortion, pregnancy complications, and problems with labor and delivery. Birth defects are associated with marijuana use. Fathers' use lead to higher rates of certain heart abnormalities. Mothers' use is associated with mutant lymphocytes--deranged immune cell factors--which could later lead to higher rates of childhood cancers.

But wait--there's more. Their newborns can experience mild withdrawal and some nervous system effects. And the toxic effects of pre-natal marijuana exposure is the gift that keeps on giving. Effects are often not readily apparent in newborns. Still, psychologists who have studied these babies have found neurological delays. Likewise, few negative effects are apparent between the ages of 1 and 3. But a woman shouldn't be fooled if she has heard of a study where the very young kids show no ill effects. Pre-natal marijuana exposure effects what are called "higher cognitive functions" which don't express themselves until later. At four years old, decreases in verbal ability and memory can be found in those kid exposed to pre-natal marijuana use. At ages 5 and 6, more problems with attention span are found. Needless to say, none of this sets the kid up for a great experience in grade school. At ages 9-12, the same problems persist and compound. Pre-natally exposed to marijuana kids have lower impulse control, don't do as well on certain types of analysis and reasoning tasks, and have lower reading and language skills.

So best advice--quit. Ideally, a woman and her partner should quit long before they try for conception. Should a woman find herself pregnant while still using, she should seek out a treatment program immediately. Quitting any substance abused is difficult, but pregnancy is the strongest motivator for women. There are treatment programs geared towards women, and some even geared towards pregnant women.

Smoking marijuana during pregnancy. First of all, any kind of smoking tightens all your blood vessels, restricting oxygen flow to your child which, in extreme cases, causes respiratory/lung problems. Also, they're prone to ADD and ADHD. Also, like small animals, this can cause them to be violently angry as their growing up.

As for crack ... crack is wack, just don't chance it. That's all you need is a baby that is born with an addiction. Especially to THAT substance.

Marijuana use during pregnancy, in certain cases, has been linked to low birth weight, but the link between cannabis and birth complications is questioned by many in the scientific community.

I just copied that from wikipedia, the link to the full article is below.
and while you're at it, look into the other effects and "DANGERS!!" of marijuana and other psychedelic drugs. The population of this country is grossly mis-informed about drugs, the more people that know the truth the better.

If you are really serious about the question, you should do the research on the net and forget answers you get here, unless you have proof of the answerer being a M.D.
The short answer though is that crack is terrible for pregnant mothers and weed is bad, but not too bad. Regular cigarettes are worse I think.

Take a trip to your local hospital and go to the neo-natal nursery and see for yourself what happens to a baby that there Mother was on drugs, watch those poor little darlings go through withdrawal, not to mention the permanent brain damage that is done.
