My kitchen currently has hideous, upside-down wallpaper over the sink and stove. I know tile is a popular choice, but can be expensive and labor intensive. Any ideas for a less pricey, easier do-it-yourself material for a backsplash?

my only worry with paint is grease and oil splatters from the stove. are there any specialty paints that will not show those spots?

take the time to price out tile. it isnt alwaysas expensive as you would think. You can go to tile stores and buy 6x6 tiles for under or about a dollar a square foot. you can also get some free by asking if they have discontinued tiles or boards and break them and make your own mosaic backsplash all you would have to buy then is the mastic

Just use a piece of 1" x 4" pine and prime and paint it with a few coats of exterior paint. If you have a router, router the top front edge to give it some style.

The easy peel and stick vinyl tiles can work great! You can find them at any large home improvement store...and they are between $.90 and $2.00 a tile depending on your style.

go to a local hvac shop and get a piece of copper sheet metal. you can glue it to the wall with some f-26 or liquid nails. for less than $100 youll have a nice, fancy easy to clean back splash

I've had vinyl foor covering in the past. There's many patterns to strike your fancy. I had a brick pattern, and loved both the appearance and ease of cleaning.

Paint it. Use a kitchen and bathroom paint so you won't have to worry about it getting wet.
