Try Kino's Journey (short, but good)
Gankutsuo has a similar mix of old technology and new tech
Last Exile (good, and probably closer to Steam Punk style than most series)

Dr. Greyman isn't steam punk but it's been compared to Full Metal Alchemist, too bad it hasn't been animated yet. It's one of the better mangas out. Have you seen "Steam Boy"? It's done by the same guy who did "Akira", I think you would like it. I think you might like Hellsing or Serial Experiment Lain as welll.

How has no one said Trigun?! the series is clasicly funny but has some serious denotations with great action! however this is also a fairly short series (most of the good ones are). Narotu is a good series, however only about 1/4 is english dubed so far. that is if you want dubed.

Cowboy Bebop perhaps?
Black Cat perhaps?
Samurai Champloo perhaps?
Lots of FMA fans seem to like Naruto.
