you could of had a bad experience with a meeting before...and whether or not the meeting was the actual bad thing u have learnt to associate the meeting with a bad thing (like being fired or hearing the company is doing bad) so u then fear the meetings as you are trying to avoid the previous bad experience...this is only one possibility..More info would help

I don'know my mum and my brother both suffer with this, both are executive types and quite confident in most other things but when the dreaded meeting comes round they go to pieces....maybe some self confidence classes would help.

Everyone here has hit on the main and obvious point - lack of true self-confidence ..... I would like to add to that, based on my experiences - that many 'successful' executive types in particular - all experience this fear .... it seems to come from a fear of criticism .... and these people are often peole who have worked hard and worked their way up from 'down there' somewhere, worked past all the negative people who put them down in their past, who left deep scars of hurt ..... facing meetings means, to the people, running that gauntlet of being criticised./ put down - again .....

you could be anticiapating the fear of ruining everything or saying something that would sound stupid or out of place. You just need to tell yourself "im confident with this meeting" and go in with your head up high....whats the worst that can happen eh?..good luck;)

Afraid you won't be able to get your point across? Worried about mixing in a group? Go with a friend - 2 is company.

Probably has to do with a lack of self confidence or a lack of being prepared adequately on your part. It could also be a fear of the unknown.
