I have no figures to back this up other than personal experience and anecdotal evidence. I live in Albuquerque and my sister lives in San Diego. From our comparing notes, Albuquerque is lower, but the incomes are significantly lower also, and they don't balance out as well as they do in SD. In other words stuff is cheaper in Albuquerque, but the salaries are proportionally lower too, making SD your overall better bargain. Of course this may vary depending on your field - if you are in the science field and have some decent experience, you can likely make more than the average salary in Albuquerque.

A LOT. Your looking at about a $500,000 difference between the two; Albuquerque being on the cheaper end of the stick. Both places are very nice and scenic. However, San Diego has nice year-round weather and Albuquerque is in rocky mountain / high desert country, so it can get pretty cold there in the winter. San Diego jobs also pay a lot better. So, I would go with San Diego. It's your best bet.

If you're moving from Albuquerque to SD, you'd better be making or coming into a lot of money. It is very expensive! It's rare to find a house for less than 500,000 and a 1-bedroom apartment could easily run you $1000.

It is going to be about double. In SD you will pay $800 a month for a small 1 bedroom apt.
