You sound like a great big brother. You just need to be firm with him. Take away his video games and ground him so he can't go to his friend's houses. If he gets his work done, then he can play games or hang out with friends the rest of the day. You don't have to be mean about it, just explain to him that it's what's best for him and that you don't want him to be behind anymore.

Big Brother as in "Big Brother and Sister" program? If that is the case, his mom sought out an avenue for you to be involved in her son's life. Therefore you should be able to talk to her about him including ways that you think she should be handling the homework. Also show him what its like to be educated or not educated. Take him to McDonald's, explain that the dudes running around telling everyone what to do graduated high school and the guy dripping sweat into the french fryer didn't. Find an outside interest for him and you to pursue, something that if he wants to continue to do, he will need an education (like taking flying lessons via CAP, designing cars on the computer, computer programming, or taking first aid classes with the ultimate goal of being a doctor.)
If you are his big brother, as in Older Sibling..... be around for him. Be there when he is doing his homework, make sure he's doing it, and doing it right. As a Valedictorian once said in his graduation speech, "I had to get straight A's. If I got a B my brother would have beat the crap out of me" You don't have to actually hit him, but as an older sibling you have the right and ability to make his life pleasant or unbearable.

Talk to the principal or a counselor or whoever is in charge of the school. Maybe there is an afterschool program he can be in. Also, you can go to your local community center and maybe there is a program for kids not doing schoolwork. It might cost you a little bit of money, but it will be well worth the money. One more suggestion. Don't feed him, and don't let him use the restroom if he doesn't do his work. Watch him work on his schoolwork before letting him pee and feeding him.

no one wants his big brother what to do, tell your mom to check his homework for a month after a month then you can trust him by doing his own work. don't take the computer game away tell him he can play after he finishes homework or hide it then after someone checks his homework you give him the game tell him that this will stop once his grades go up. oh by the way school sucks tell him that and but he should still work hard.

Sounds like you need to have a talk with your Mother, it's not your responsibility to reward him for good grades. As responsible as you are wanting your brother to do good, helping him etc...it's really not your place. Mom needs a reality check! Sorry!

Give him all the games he wants, then he'll beat them all and get bored with them.
That's what happens to me. I play games all weekend, beat them, and then I get bored and do work.
