I found a couple sites that suggest putting up owl silhouettes might help, and it is an easy thing to try.
It is possible that the woodpecker is pecking because there are bugs eating out your siding, and they want to eat the bugs. So you do want to inspect your house to make sure you don't have an infestation that needs to be treated.
The links take you to several sites that talk about why woodpeckers peck at house, and what can be done to stop it. This was an easy search. I typed "woodpeckers peck houses" into Google and got a lot of useful hits.

I have trouble with woodpeckers also. I think my problems is Paper wasps under my siding. I do know that an owl image, inflatable owl or even a plastic one with moving head DO NOT keep woodpeckers or any other kind of a bird away. I've had a plastic Owl with moving head for two years now. The birds know the owl isn't real so they simply ignore it.
