Can't remeber the name, but it was on one of Roald Dahls 'Tales of the Unexpected' series of TV shows in the early 80s. I believe the wife was played by Susan George, and the principal police officer by Brian Blessed.
Her husband was also a policeman.
Hope this helps you find the answer.

You are thinking of the classic "Lamb to the Slaughter" which was an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in 1958.
It was written by Roald Dahl - yes, the same guy who did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The man was versatile.

I like the movie better where she kills her abusive husband and serves him to everyone, including a police man in the restaurant where she works.
