We currently don't have ANY string theory. We do have lots of work in progress. These are just two of many varying approaches to the problem. It's way too early to predict which, if any, will become a satisfactory, useful theory. Judging by the activity in the field, we'll have a lot more before we have one.

we'll have a string theory when it will be able to predict at least ONE thing. the way things are going, this seems unlikely this decade, or next, or the one after.

and until at least one prediction can be made, which can actually be verified experimentally, then string theory is just a mathematical exercice, and/or a complex philosophy?
