I have an attorney, and I also have a job. On the advise of the attny, she has told me to file for the alimony because that is how I guess to make him pay for what he has done. I have two children with him, 23 and 20. He will not help the 23 in college because he helped me to get away from him. The police said they could not keep me safe and for me to leave. He has now sold our home to his cousin and therefore doesn't have to move or come up with a down payment etc. I am glad that someone wrote in that a judge sets the amount, I was not comfortable with this task.

Get an attorney. That's the only way to protect yourself.

Get a good lawyer, if he was your sole source of support for you then finding out your states laws might help. (Thats where the lawyer comes in) Your husband has issues for banging his first cousin. Sick puppy. He should be smacked with a newspaper.I would say ask for an amount that will allow you to go back to school and get an education so you dont have to depend on anyone else to support you. Good luck.

I don't believe in alimony and here's why:

When you walk into a courtroom and say "he was mean to me I want him to support me indefinately." You are saying "he is mean to me. I want a divorce. I can't live with him, but I am not able to support myself." Why give him the satisfaction of being able to dangle money over your head at every turn? It hurts, but pick up the pieces and move on ALONE and without HIM.

You don't get to set the amount you receive! It is based on his income and how much you make. The courts decide all of that! SORRY!

You need a lawyer, not an advise board. Good luck.

If he is working or drawing retirement you can get half. Also if he has 401k you can get half it.A cousin ****-er needs to be shot.

Sounds selfish to me. Move on and end all contact with him - he's not worth your time and you're not worth his money.

Why do you deserve anything? If you have kids I agree with child support but get off your A** and get a job!
