One of these answers has some useful informatio, but the main advice is, you need to visit. UMass Boston is right in Boston - a big city full of 10,000s of students, music, clubs, etc etc. UMASS Dartmouth is in a country town. The only nearby cities are New Bedford and Fall River, both of which are rather run down and seedy and have pretty limited night life and cultural life. For most of the Dartmouth students this is not a problem because most of them come from this general area of the state and have lots of high school friends and kids from their hometowns to hang with. If you are not from the area, you will not be tied in to that social group, so I think you could be kind of left out.
But, you need to visit and see what you think...

I attend school in Boston (NEU), and I love the city!
However, Umass Dartmouth does have more facilities and offers more services than Umass Bos. But there is a smaller student to teacher ratio in Boston.
Umass Bos
Enrollment: 7,619
Average GPA: 3.00
Average SAT: 1072
Student Faculty Ratio: 14:1
Most Popular Majors: Business/Commerce, General, English Language and Literature, General, Nursing - Registered Nurse Training (RN, ASN, BSN, MSN)
Umass Darth
Enrollment: 7,173
Average GPA: 3.03
Average SAT: 1081
Student Faculty Ratio: 17:1
Most Popular Majors: Business Administration/Management, Nursing, Other, Psychology, General
Check it out yourself, see what you really prefer.
How about you take a trip to each school once more, take a walk around. Email admissions to see if you can sit in one some classes. It may help in your final decision.
Good luck!
