I used to watch Nightline regularly w/ Ted Koppel, ABC News w/ Peter Jennings, 60 Minutes, Washington Week in Review and MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour. But tv news is now biased and superficial. I still watch Washington Week and News Hour, but the only trustworthy figure I can find is Bill Moyers (well, there's Olberman on MSNBC).

Once I looked forward to Masterpiece Theater, Hill Street Blues, LA Law, St. Elsewhere, NYPD Blue--hokey but decent drama about real people, real problems, and I watched All in the Family and Cheers faithfully.

Now, with the Internet and DVD's, I can I can find more reliable news online and better entertainment from NetFlix.

So is there something out there on tv that I'm missing?

nah, i don't think you're missing anything. you can keep up on news online and from newspapers just as well as you can from TV...and if you're happy with your DVD's and movies for entertainment options, more power to you! we didn't even own a TV for like 2 years and, to be honest, i didn't miss it.

mank: On Sunday Oct. 29 USA Network is running a "House" marathon from 1 PM to 11 PM. Guessing that you don't have the whole day to spend in front of the TV, may I suggest two episodes I think you would appreciate:

6 PM: "Sleeping Dogs Lie"
7 PM: "House vs. God"

OK, so maybe you don't have 2 hours to spend in front of the TV tomorrow. Watch "House vs. God" if you can. It's about Dr. House's very interesting encounter with a young patient who happens to be a faith-healer. Very well done episode as I recall.

Judging from some of the shows you watched, you're in my peer group. Tired of the same old same old? Try (1) Heroes on NBC or Sci-Fi Channel (Mondays on NBC, repeat on Friday on Sci-Fi); (2) Jericho, Wednesdays on CBS; (3) Eureka, Tuesdays on Sci-Fi; (4) Lost, Wednesdays on ABC (not as good as it was, but still better than the average show). And in January, they'll be bringing The Closer back to TNT, and hopefully The 4400 to USA Network.

24, Lost, and Prison Break are very realistic (i.e. every day situations that we all might encounter during the course of our regular routine).

The Office is very funny, and I bet that most people probably know people like some of the characters on the show (or maybe their own "office" situation is similar).

BTW, I was just kidding about 24, Lost and Prison Break being realistic (they are entertaining if you can just remember that they are television shows trying to entertain you--they don't have to be about every day situations)

I agree with you that there is nothing much to watch.
I have my own regular news channels, but I get most of my news from blogs.

I think tv has too much violence and sex. There is also too much reality tv that is uninteresting to me. I find it offensive, that's why I don't watch. I find it hard to believe that these are the types of shows that people really like to see.

...I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for any new show. They feature swearing, exalt so-called alternate lifestyles, the're brainlessly done, and they are doing their part to destroy any decency in our culture - and more thought goes into the advertising than the shows.
...We're living in "rerun heaven" on TVLAND (Andy Griffith, Green Acres, Gunsmoke) and we enjoy much of what the HISTORY channel shows (except for the UFO & sex documentaries). We have DVD's and favorite movies on VHS.

( When you get talking headed out, Comedy Central South Park & the cartoon networks Family Guy should do the trick )
