Ease of access. Especially if you have the main unit on the floor or there are no usb ports on the front of the case, then this makes it handy.

Most older computers have USB ports on the back only. The point of having a USB port on a monitor is convenience for say, a digital camera.

Eventually data feed via the USB will be available. Just like on the back of some cable boxes, the data feed will affect all components that use a bios or are cpu like. Upgrades via the internet will come from the 10baset type connections, the A/V receiver will download the info via the USB.

So that you dont have to reach around the back of your laptop/pc. You can just stick your hand out and plug that usb device straight in. Comfort!
