Since I started my new job, I spend most of my day sitting in an office chair, which happens to be leather. I've noticed a rash appearing on my butt lately and I'm just curious if that could be the case. Any ideas?

Unless you are sitting in the chair with your butt bare, it should not be an allergy to leather itself. Cleaning products can be volatile enough to go through clothing though. I'd suggest buying or making a seat cover of some kind - maybe fleece or a foam pad with a removable washable cover. Don't leave it on the chair overnight or it might get "cleaned" with the same stuff that's bothering you to begin with. You could even try one of those funky elastic covers meant for toilet seats - anything that can be removed easily and washed regularly to rid it of any chemical buildup.

If you can find out the name of the sofa's manufacturer, you should be able to find them on the internet and get a contact number for customer service. I would definitely contact them first before trying home remedies. Your main goal is to remove the allergen without ruining the leather. The vinyl should be fine with just about anything you put on it. The leather could dry out or discolor. They say when you get poison ivy on your skin, you have 30 minutes to wash it off with soap and water before it starts affecting you. You might want to use that theory and just a mild dishwashing soap in warm water. Start with paper towels so you throw away the residue each time you wipe it. After several times doing it with paper towels, use an old rag that can also be thrown away. Remember you don't want to cross contaminate your laundry. After thoroughly washing the area, wipe with clean water to remove the soap, then dry thoroughly. You may need to use a leather conditioner.
