I remember it as a child...and I only remember one scene. A man was looking for a woman in her apartment...he opened the door and all he found was blood dripping down a door in the room and there was a severed hand lying at the foot of the door. I remember it was one of those on the hunt for a killer movies, but that was about it...I'm thinking mid 80's....

Sounds like a scene from Time After Time.
There is a shot like that in the film, where the Amy comes home to her apartment, finds the door ajar, opens it and sees a lot of blood all over, and a severed hand on the floor nearby. It was her coworker, who had just become one of Jack The Ripper's latest victims.
The film came out in the late '70's

well i don't remember this movie but know that if this was made back in the late 70s or 80s there was so many movies made like this one . sorry
